OIC Addresses Palestine, Syria, Rohinga, Terrorism Issues, during Coordinating Meeting of Foreign Ministers

Jeddah, Dhu-AlHijjah 21, 1437, Sep 22, 2016, SPA -- The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Amin Madani addressed, in his speech here today, during the annual coordination meeting of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Organization, the questions of Palestine, Syria and the Rohinga, in Myanmar, terrorism and other issues, expressing thanks and appreciation of Kuwait for ably and sedately chairmanship of the 42nd session the Council of Foreign Ministers, welcoming the chairmanship of Uzbekistan for the next session of the Council, in October and praising the fruitful and constructive cooperation between the Organization, the Organization of the United Nations and its various organs and structures.
He expressed satisfaction with the return of international attention to the question of Palestine "peace" since the announcement of the French initiative, hoping to be able to move the peace process and bring about results, stressing the importance of contributing to the intensification of efforts to coordinate with all international actors, in order to hold the international peace conference before the end of this year, calling on the Palestinians to achieve honest national reconciliation.
Regarding the developments in Syria, the Secretary-General condemned the targeting of humanitarian convoys and expressed deep concern and great interest in conditions deteriorating and open to all possibilities in Syria, Yemen, Libya and the continuation of the dispute over Nagorno-Karabakh and the occupied Kashmir region, expressing concern over serious developments, in the bloody events that threaten peace and security and which claimed the lives of innocent citizens, he stated.
OIC is closely following the developments of the situation in Somalia, Mali, Central Africa, he added, expressing hope that further steps will achieve the required stability in these countries, noting that the organization is working with the Government of Afghanistan, in coordination with the active partners to make progress in organizing the international conference of Ulemas on Afghanistan, which graciously, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be hosting, in next October, he commented.
Referring to a meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing participation in the work of the General Assembly of the United Nations, he held with Adviser of the State in the government of Myanmar Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi, he said that the meeting was characterized by openness, clarity and transparency, in the discussion of all matters relating to Rohinga issues to pave the way for a constructive dialogue with the Government of Myanmar, in order to reach a serious and practical solutions for Rohinga issues and improve their humanitarian situation, stressing that the organization is working very seriously to monitor the situation of Muslim minority groups in the Philippines, Thailand and other countries.
On the issue of terrorism, the Secretary-General said that terrorism remains the most serious threat to the security and stability of societal patterns in many of the member states, as the aggravation of this phenomenon made it a cross-border as well as for the high number of victims, he stressed, pointing that it is our duty to further tighten coordination and cooperation to find common and comprehensive approach against.
At the time when members nations, including Saudi Arabia, are making great efforts to combat terrorism, he pointed out, the recent legislation passed by the US Congress under the name of "Justice against Sponsors of Terrorism" bill, is undermining our international efforts to fight terrorism, weakening the coalitions that promote peace and security, around the world, and tearing norms and principles that govern relations between states, he asserted, calling for congress, from this rostrum to pull this project aside, as it threatens international peace and security and lead to a big mess in international relations.
