Israel foils bid to plant explosives in Golan: Army

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Israeli army on Sunday foiled a bid by some people to plant explosives in the occupied Golan Heights on the border with Syria, the army has said.

"An attempt by a cell of saboteurs to plant an explosive device against our troops on the border with Syria was thwarted," army spokesman Avichay Adraee said.

"The cell was detected by surveillance machines," he added on Twitter, noting that the members of the cell were struck by an Israeli army aircraft.

He said Israel would not allow its "sovereignty" to be violated.

Adraee did not mention further details about the incident.

However, other Israeli sources said earlier that four militants were killed as they tried to plant an explosive device in the Golan Heights on the border with Syria.

A military source told Channel 2 that an Israeli army force had detected the four militants as they tried to plant the device.

He added that Israel's air force then intervened and killed the militants.

The channel said the incident was the largest since the Israeli army killed some members of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement inside Syria a few months ago.
