(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Kaspersky lab solutions block millions of attacks across the globe, which clearly indicates that cyber criminals are smart, but not smarter than security providers.
This was disclosed by Kaspersky Lab managing director, Ovanes Mikhaylov, while talking to Khaleej Times.

"Kaspersky Lab researchers are keen on identifying threats before they happen, as prediction is one of the key points for staying ahead of threats," Mikhaylov informed.
"Markets in the Middle East are just developing in terms of information technologies and cyber security. Cyber threats are developing as well" Kaspersky Lab experts see an increase in cyber-attacks in almost all of the countries. A number of malware types were tailored and addressed to users in the Arabic language," he said.
A recent survey conducted by Kaspersky Lab and B2B International found that more than half of those respondents in the UAE who lost money in fraudulent online transactions did not get all - or sometimes any € of their funds back.
Although many financial institutions state a willingness to reimburse money lost due to cybercrime, only 44 per cent of respondents in the UAE reported that they could fully recoup their losses. Around 28 per cent of victims received only partial compensation, and 28 per cent could not recover any money at all. These losses can be significant: the average sum stolen by cyber criminals was $243 and 22 per cent of respondents reported a loss in excess of $1,000.
Talking about the company's growth in sales or revenues, Mikhaylov said: "We still have to wait for the results of 2014 but at the moment I have to say we've done a good job strengthening our presence in the enterprise segment - the recent partnership deal with Injazat Data Systems, the industry recognised market leader in the region for IT, is good example."
As both governments and businesses see more and more the importance of cyber security, there's more interest towards Kaspersky Lab solutions and services, he said, adding that the company has good results in the corporate IT security segment, including the enterprise segment.
"We see very good perspectives on the market as it is becoming more and more mature in terms of cyber security. While maintaining the leading position we will continue to deliver best possible security to our customers and enhance our enterprise market indicators, not forgetting about home users as well of course," he said.
Explaining IT security spending in the region, he said: "Different organisations in different sectors move towards IT security at different pace. And come to the right balance of security at different time. Financial companies, telecom businesses, for example are among the first to implement IT security solutions. It is important to understand the threats and the harm that a security breach can have before actually facing any of these."
The managing director further explained that security is also not just about spending on technical, but about the quality of solutions, professionalism of IT staff and procedures as well.

He mentioned that desktop computers and mobility devices both are subject to attacks and both represent easy targets if not protected. However, mobile device users don't tend to secure their devices which makes them more prone to cyber-attacks, he added. Kaspersky Lab offers solutions such as Kaspersky Internet Security - multi device, which can protect desktops and mobile devices at the same, keeping the users secure across various devices, he informed.
Based on data from Kaspersky Security Network, Kaspersky Lab products in the Middle East neutralised more than 59.2 million cyber-attacks and malware infections on computers and mobile devices. Kaspersky Lab noticed a rise in the number of mobile threats and attacks that aim to steal users' banking credentials. The number of mobile infections reported during Q3, 2014 was 3.5 times higher than the figure for the same period in 2013. The number of Banking Trojan incidents recorded during Q3, 2014 doubled compared with the previous year.
In the Middle East region most mobile malware attacks were registered by Kaspersky Lab in Saudi Arabia (36 per cent of the joint figure for top affected countries), followed by Egypt (24 per cent) and the UAE (20 per cent).
Mikhaylov advised: "Companies should be aware and updated of the changing threats and take the needed security measures considering these changes. They should have efficient security in place. Also the proper attention should be paid to the education of employees on cyber threats and simple security policies.
