(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The United Kingdom has decided to send 750 military personnel to Sierra Leone in support of the international efforts to combat the spread of Ebola virus in the West Africa region, British Ministry of Defense announced Wednesday.
The UK will deploy troops, helicopters, and a ship, as well as army medics and Merlin helicopters supported by RFA Argus to provide direct support and reassurance, Defense Secretary Michael Fallon stated to Sky News Channel.
Fallon also indicated that the British government has decided, following an emergency COBR committee meeting today, chaired by Prime Minister David Cameron, to increase all its efforts on land, in the air, and at sea to tackle Ebola.
"The Ebola outbreak in West Africa is already a global threat to public health and it's vital that the UK remains at the forefront of responding to the epidemic," he said.
