Dr zainab obaida specialist senior registrar dubai hospital icu also said family members and relatives should adhere to the visiting hours stipulated by hospitals.

She was talking at the dha’s smart clinic discussion on care and management of critically ill patients at the intercontinental festival city as part of the three-day 10th emirates critical conference which ended on saturday.

“this is something we need to keep reiterating because these patients are prone to infections” she said. “sometimes visiting family members especially children and the elderly can get infected after visiting icus. therefore a certain amount of precaution is necessary.”

She said normally the ratio of patients to nurses in the icu is 1:1 because these patients need to constantly monitored. icu patients include those with low or high blood pressure and problems related to the respiratory system kidney nervous system and heart.

She also said lifestyle changes can prevent a lot of people from landing in the icu.

“patients who are admitted to icus generally have multiple problems caused by a disease. if they manage their primary disease they can avoid complications that lead to hospitalisation.” -news?khaleejtimes.com
