KABUL, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait has handed over Afghanistan's embassy to a senior diplomat appointed by the Afghan government, local media outlet TOLOnews reported late Thursday.
Mawlawi Mohammad Shafiq Khatib, a former senior official in the Afghan foreign ministry, has assumed duties as the new head of the embassy, according to the report.
The development comes nearly five years after the government's return to power in August 2021, following the withdrawal of U.S.-led international forces.
