Ukraine Announces New Sanctions on Russian Military, Maritime Assets
(MENAFN) Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Saturday the imposition of new sanctions targeting Russian military personnel as well as civilian merchant vessels allegedly linked to military logistics, according to Ukraine’s presidential press service.
The first set of measures includes 127 Russian individuals accused of involvement in missile strikes on Ukraine, including attacks on critical infrastructure and civilian facilities. The sanctions specifically target commanders of long-range aviation units, as well as officers in missile and artillery divisions of the ground forces.
A second package of sanctions affects 29 civilian cargo ships said to be used in transporting supplies for the Russian military. According to Ukrainian officials, most of these vessels are already under restrictions imposed by the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Ukrainian presidential adviser and sanctions commissioner Vladyslav Vlasiuk said the measures are intended to disrupt supply routes used by the Russian military and increase pressure on those responsible for strikes on Ukrainian territory.
He added that the sanctions aim to make it more difficult for Russia to conduct military operations and to hold individuals accountable for attacks on civilian populations and infrastructure.
Russian officials have not yet issued a response to the newly announced sanctions packages.
