Russia, Belarus Hold Joint Nuclear Missile Drills
The ministry released footage showing Russian and Belarusian forces transporting and loading tactical nuclear munitions during drills that began this week in Belarus. The exercises include training for the“combat use of nuclear weapons.”
According to Russian officials, Belarusian troops received the munitions, mounted them onto Iskander-M missile systems and moved them to undisclosed launch areas under simulated combat conditions.
The drills also involve Russia's strategic missile forces, long-range aviation units, the Northern and Pacific fleets, as well as military units from the Leningrad and Central regions.
Moscow said the exercises are part of planned activities under the Russia-Belarus“Union State” framework and are not directed against any specific country. Russian authorities said the main purpose is to test combat readiness and improve coordination between the two allies.
Russia and Belarus have significantly expanded military cooperation since the start of the Ukraine war in 2022, including the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons inside Belarus.
Western countries and NATO members have repeatedly expressed concern over Russia's nuclear signaling and military exercises amid continuing tensions between Moscow and the West.
