UAE Says No Radiation Risk After Drone Strike Near Barakah Nuclear Plant

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates’ nuclear regulator has confirmed that no radioactive leakage occurred following a drone strike near the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, according to reports.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation stated that the incident did not compromise the plant’s safety systems or affect its operational readiness. It further assured that “There has been no release of radioactive material, radiological safety levels remain within normal ranges, and there is no risk to the public or the environment,” adding that no injuries were reported.

Authorities said the situation followed a fire that broke out in an external electrical generator located outside the plant’s inner perimeter in the Al Dhafra region. The fire was reportedly triggered by a drone strike, though no source of the drone was identified. Emergency teams responded quickly and implemented precautionary measures.

According to reports, officials emphasized that the plant itself remained unaffected and continued to operate within normal safety parameters.

The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions in the Gulf following earlier military escalations involving strikes and counterstrikes in the wider region, which have periodically raised security concerns around critical infrastructure.
