Erdogan Says Türkiye Accelerating NATO Summit Preparations

(MENAFN) According to reports, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Türkiye has stepped up preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, describing it as a potential milestone in the alliance’s history.

Speaking at a Justice and Development Party parliamentary group meeting in Ankara, Erdogan stated that the summit—scheduled for July 7–8—would be significant for NATO cohesion, particularly following confirmation that US President Donald Trump is expected to attend.

He emphasized that Türkiye views its security in broader regional terms, stating that it extends beyond its borders to areas including Syria and Lebanon. He also warned against what he described as efforts to create “faits accomplis” in neighboring countries and said Türkiye would not ignore regional aggression.

Erdogan made broader geopolitical remarks, warning against what he described as destabilizing actions in the region and urging international actors to prevent further escalation. He also criticized policies associated with Israel, warning that continued conflict could have wider global consequences if not contained.

He further stated that Türkiye would firmly defend its interests in the Eastern Mediterranean, including the rights it associates with Turkish Cypriots, and warned of a strong response to any perceived challenges in the area.

The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic activity ahead of the NATO summit, which is expected to address alliance cohesion, security challenges, and developments in neighboring conflict zones.
