Gaza-Bound Convoy Stalls Near Libya’s Sirte Amid Talks with Authorities

(MENAFN) An international humanitarian land convoy heading toward Gaza has been halted on the outskirts of the Libyan city of Sirte, as discussions continue with local authorities regarding permission to proceed, according to reports.

The Global Sumud Land Convoy, which is carrying emergency aid intended for the Gaza Strip, has remained stationary since early Sunday on the outer approaches to Sirte, located roughly 450 kilometers east of Tripoli, before entering eastern-controlled territories.

The mission began its journey on Friday from Zawiya, west of the capital, bringing together more than 350 activists representing around 30 countries, including Türkiye, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania, Indonesia, China, the United States, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

The convoy is transporting 50 containers in total, including 30 filled with humanitarian relief supplies, 20 containing mobile housing units, and five ambulances designed for emergency medical use.

According to convoy coordinators, including Turkish participant liaison Hayati Arslan, negotiations with authorities in eastern Libya are still ongoing as organizers seek approval to continue the route toward Gaza.
