Deadly Train Collision Sparks Fire in Bangkok
(MENAFN) At least eight people lost their lives and 25 others were injured after a freight train crashed into a public bus in Bangkok on Saturday, according to local reports.
The collision reportedly took place during the afternoon along Asok-Din Daeng Road between the Rama IX and Asok-Phet intersections in the Thai capital.
Witnesses said the force of the crash caused the bus to catch fire, while several nearby cars and motorcycles were also damaged in the incident.
Authorities said a number of injured motorists and passengers received emergency treatment at the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals.
Emergency and rescue teams were deployed quickly after reports indicated that several passengers could have been trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Search and recovery efforts continued as thick smoke covered the area and major traffic disruptions affected surrounding roads. Officials also warned that the death toll could increase.
The situation is being monitored by the Thai Transport Ministry, the State Railway of Thailand and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, which operated the bus service.
