Iran, Pakistan Hold Talks on Border Trade and Security

(MENAFN) Eskandar Momeni met with Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran on Saturday to discuss border trade, security coordination and broader cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, according to official reports.

Pakistani officials confirmed that Naqvi arrived in the Iranian capital earlier in the day during what was described as an unannounced visit.

Reports said the discussions covered several bilateral matters, with particular attention given to increasing trade activities along the shared border and improving economic cooperation.

Momeni reportedly thanked the Pakistani government and public for what he described as their “friendly and brotherly” approach toward Iran, adding that relations between the neighboring countries are built on longstanding historical ties.

The Iranian minister also stressed that both governments are committed to strengthening commercial and economic relations and highlighted the importance of creating additional facilities on both sides of the border to reinforce “unity, solidarity, and brotherhood.”

He further expressed hope that joint cooperation would make the lengthy shared border “more secure and beneficial” for both nations.

Naqvi, for his part, thanked Iranian officials for hosting him and said the two sides would work toward “tangible solutions” concerning bilateral relations, border security and trade issues, according to reports.

Earlier, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said the visit had been arranged in advance and noted that further details about Naqvi’s meetings would be released later.

The meeting comes as Pakistan continues mediation efforts between the United States and Iran aimed at securing a lasting settlement to the regional conflict that began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran on Feb. 28 and subsequent Iranian retaliatory actions against Israel and countries hosting American military assets.
