Two Killed in Small Plane Crash in Southwestern Germany
(MENAFN) Two people were killed after a small aircraft crashed Saturday in a residential area of Limburgerhof in southwestern Germany, according to local reports.
Police spokesperson Thorsten Mischler said: “Based on the investigation so far, the two occupants of the plane were killed in the crash. There are currently no reports of injured residents.”
However, reports from public broadcaster SWR indicated that at least one additional person may have been injured.
According to reports, the aircraft apparently exploded in mid-air around 11:30 a.m. local time over a residential district on the edge of the town.
Witnesses said the plane appeared to clip a house before crashing. Police added that wreckage was scattered “over a wide area around the crash site.”
Large numbers of police officers and emergency crews were deployed to the area following the incident.
“The crash site has been cordoned off over a wide area,” the police spokesperson said.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash, while a police helicopter was used to capture aerial images of the site shortly after noon.
