UK Economy Grows in Early 2026 as Services Sector Leads Expansion


(MENAFN) The United Kingdom’s economy recorded growth of 0.6% in the three months to March 2026, largely supported by a strong performance in the services sector, according to reports citing the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.6% in the first quarter compared with the previous three-month period ending in December 2025. The data also showed steady monthly gains, with growth of 0.5% in the three months to February and 0.4% in the three months to January.

Services, which represent the largest share of the UK economy, rose by 0.8% over the quarter and provided the main boost to overall output.

Production output edged up by 0.2% during the same period, while construction activity increased by 0.4%, marking a recovery after five consecutive quarterly declines.

According to reports, overall GDP in the three months to March was 1% higher compared with the same period a year earlier.
