Qatar, Türkiye Back Pakistan's Mediation Drive to End Iran War
(MENAFN) Qatar and Türkiye have thrown their diplomatic weight behind Pakistan's mediation drive to halt the Iran war and restore access to one of the world's most critical shipping lanes, Qatar's top diplomat announced Tuesday.
Speaking alongside Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a joint press conference in Doha, Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani declared both nations' commitment to diplomatic solutions that would stabilize the region and guarantee unimpeded navigation through the strategically vital waterway.
"Qatar and Türkiye back Pakistan's mediation efforts to end (Iran) war, reopen Strait of Hormuz," he said.
Al Thani issued a pointed warning to Tehran, stressing that the strait must not be weaponized as a pressure tool against Gulf nations — drawing a firm line against any attempts at economic coercion through the chokepoint.
The Qatari foreign minister then pivoted to the deteriorating situation in Gaza, leveling direct accusations at Israel over what he described as sustained ceasefire breaches and the deliberate manipulation of humanitarian assistance.
"Israel continues to violate ceasefire in Gaza Strip, and is using humanitarian aid as a weapon," Al Thani said.
The press conference took place as part of Fidan's official working visit to the Qatari capital.
