Israeli Army Shells Southern Lebanon with Phosphorus Munitions

(MENAFN) Israeli forces reportedly carried out artillery and air operations in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, including the use of phosphorus shells against several towns, according to reports from a Lebanese news agency.

The agency said the towns of Kounine and Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district were struck with artillery munitions containing phosphorus, which are internationally prohibited under certain conditions due to their severe humanitarian impact.

Separate airstrikes were reported in the Tyre district, where Israeli warplanes targeted the towns of Kafra, Braachit, and Safad al-Battikh. Additional strikes also hit Beit al-Sayyad and Mansouri, with three raids reportedly directed at residential buildings, according to the same reports.

No casualties were immediately confirmed in the incidents.

Despite a ceasefire announced on April 17 and later extended until May 17, strikes and demolitions in southern Lebanon have reportedly continued on a near-daily basis.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry stated Tuesday that since March 2, the death toll from Israeli attacks has reached 2,702, while 8,311 people have been injured, as stated by reports.
