Iran FM Arrives In China As Usiran Talks Advance
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has travelled to China at a time of renewed diplomatic activity involving Tehran and Washington, according to Iranian media reports.
State and semi-official Iranian outlets said Araghchi is expected to meet his Chinese counterpart in Beijing for talks focused on bilateral relations and regional issues.
The visit comes as US President Donald Trump said there had been“major progress” in ongoing negotiations with Iranian representatives. He did not provide details on the scope or terms of the discussions.
Trump also said a project referred to as the“freedom of the Strait of Hormuz” had been temporarily paused following a request from Pakistan. He said the pause was intended to allow time to determine whether a final agreement could be reached. Trump added that maritime restrictions affecting Iranian ports would remain in place.
Araghchi's visit to Beijing highlights China's continued diplomatic role as a key regional partner to Tehran at a time of reported movement in US–Iran talks. However, with no official Iranian response to Washington's claims and key details of the negotiations still undisclosed, the scope and durability of any diplomatic progress remain unclear.
