Asian Countries Denounce White House Correspondents’ Dinner Incident
(MENAFN) Several Asian countries have strongly criticized a shooting incident that occurred outside the venue of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday evening.
US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were safely evacuated from the annual gathering held at the Washington Hilton and were not injured.
Trump stated that one individual had been taken into custody following the incident. He referred to the suspect as a “very sick person” and a “thug” who had violated the US Constitution.
The event was also attended by high-ranking officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed on US social media company X that he was relieved to know that President Trump, First Lady Melania and Vice President Vance “are safe and unharmed.” He further added, “I extend my best wishes for their continued safety and well-being,” and emphasized that “Violence has no place in a democracy and must be unequivocally condemned.”
Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari also denounced the shooting, describing it as “a heinous act of terrorism.”
