Video: Moi Urges Compliance With Maritime Safety Regulations To Prevent Risks, Legal Liability
Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reiterated the importance of adhering to maritime safety regulations and official guidelines to ensure safe navigation and avoid potential risks or legal consequences during sea trips. The Ministry stressed that compliance with instructions issued by competent authorities is a cornerstone of safety and a key factor in sustaining maritime activities.
In a video message shared on the Ministry's official account on X, Captain Navy Abdullah Al-Abduljabbar highlighted essential precautions that must be followed before, during, and after marine voyages.
Al-Abduljabbar advised sea-goers to take necessary measures before setting out. This includes informing family members of the intended destination and expected return time. He also emphasized the importance of checking weather conditions and ensuring the vessel is seaworthy.
Boat operators should verify the availability of essential safety equipment such as life jackets, lifebuoys, and a marine compass. In addition, navigation lights must be functioning properly, and all required licenses and registration documents should be valid and kept on board.
During the journey, Al-Abduljabbar stressed the need to maintain constant communication and situational awareness. He called for the installation and activation of the automatic identification system (AIS) when heading out to sea, and urged mariners to keep their VHF radios tuned to Channel 16 at all times.
He also warned against approaching restricted maritime zones or offshore platforms and advised contacting relevant authorities whenever necessary, particularly in emergency situations. The Ministry further underscored that navigation is strictly prohibited during abnormal weather conditions or when maritime warnings have been issued by authorities.
Upon returning from a sea trip, Al-Abduljabbar instructed boat operators to immediately notify the floating station of their arrival. He also highlighted the importance of conducting routine maintenance on vessels after each journey to ensure continued safety and operational readiness.
The Ministry concluded that strict adherence to these guidelines is essential not only for the safety of individuals and their crews but also for preserving the sustainability of maritime operations across the country.
The advisory forms part of ongoing efforts by the MoI to enhance public awareness and promote responsible marine practices, particularly as marine activities continue to grow in popularity.
