Poland Voices Condemnation of Israel Over Gaza Violations
(MENAFN) Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has condemned what he described as Israeli violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza, while reiterating Poland’s broader positions on the Middle East and European Union policy.
Speaking to a public broadcaster, Sikorski said Poland “not only condemns” alleged abuses in Gaza but also regularly criticizes settlement activity, supports funding for Palestinian refugees, and votes at the United Nations in favor of measures aimed at holding Israel accountable for its actions in the occupied territories.
He also addressed discussions within the European Commission regarding accelerated EU membership pathways, stating that a “fast-track” accession process would not be possible.
Sikorski emphasized that Ukraine must meet all required conditions for membership, including difficult negotiation areas such as agriculture and transport, similar to previous EU entrants.
On the war in Ukraine, the foreign minister said Russia’s economy was beginning to slow while Ukraine was increasing the range and precision of its strikes. He argued that, from a rational perspective, Russia’s leadership should reconsider its military campaign, but added that “dictators don’t work that way.”
Sikorski also expressed expectations that Hungary would move away from what he described as “authoritarian ideologies,” reflecting ongoing tensions within the European Union over democratic standards and governance.
