Iran Warns Gulf Ports at Risk After US Imposes Strait of Hormuz Blockade

(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a stark warning following the United States’ decision to impose a naval blockade on vessels entering and leaving Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.

The statement, carried through state media outlets, said Iran considers maritime security in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman to be indivisible and warned of sweeping consequences for regional shipping.

In its remarks, the IRGC declared: “no port in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be safe”

It further emphasized a reciprocal approach to maritime security, stating:
“The security of ports in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman is “either for everyone or for no one.”

According to the statement, Iran maintains that safeguarding its territorial waters is a fundamental sovereign responsibility. It described military and maritime enforcement as part of its lawful national duties, while asserting its right to control access through strategic waterways.

The IRGC also indicated that vessels it considers hostile will be barred from passage, while others may be allowed transit under conditions set by Iranian authorities. It warned that restrictions would be enforced through what it described as a structured control system over the Strait of Hormuz, citing ongoing security threats.

It further stated: “Enemy-affiliated vessels” will be denied passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and added: “The enemy threats.”

It also accused the United States of illegal maritime actions, saying:
“The restrictions imposed by the criminal United States on maritime movement in international waters are illegal and amount to piracy.”

According to reports, Washington has announced the enforcement of a blockade on Iranian ports beginning at 1400 GMT on Monday, a move that has sharply escalated tensions in one of the world’s most critical shipping corridors.
