Türkiye Hails US-Iran Ceasefire Deal

(MENAFN) Ankara threw its diplomatic weight behind the recently brokered US-Iran ceasefire on Wednesday, calling for strict compliance from all parties involved while pledging continued support for upcoming peace negotiations.

In an official statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable road to sustainable peace. "We emphasize that the temporary ceasefire must be fully implemented on the ground and hope that all parties will adhere to the agreement reached," the statement read.

Ankara further committed to active engagement in the diplomatic process, stating: "We will continue to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of the negotiations to be held in Islamabad."

Türkiye also extended congratulations to Pakistan, recognizing Islamabad's pivotal facilitation role and expressing hope that peace-driven initiatives would continue gaining momentum.

The ceasefire follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, who confirmed he agreed "to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks."

The truce comes amid a severe regional escalation that erupted after the US and Israel launched a coordinated military offensive against Iran on Feb. 28 — a campaign that claimed more than 1,340 lives, among them then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran responded with waves of drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf states housing US military installations. Iran further tightened its grip on regional trade routes by restricting naval movement through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz.
