Russia Urges Regional Unity Amid Rising Mideast Tensions
(MENAFN) Russia has emphasized that negotiation, cooperation, and balanced relations are the most effective path toward addressing escalating tensions in the Middle East, according to reports.
Speaking at a meeting of a Russian policy foundation board, the foreign minister highlighted Moscow’s longstanding ties with both Gulf countries and Iran, noting that Russia maintains active engagement with multiple regional actors.
He stated that Russia is closely monitoring developments and sharing its assessments with both Iran and members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, reflecting its ongoing diplomatic involvement in regional affairs.
Russia has also previously proposed a broader regional security framework for the Persian Gulf, aimed at fostering cooperation between Arab states and Iran. This concept includes measures intended to enhance transparency in military activities and build mutual confidence among regional actors.
“These “essentially simple steps, already tested in various regions of the world,” according to Lavrov, will help ease regional tensions.”
The remarks underline Moscow’s position that inclusive dialogue and mutual understanding are preferable to external pressure or unilateral approaches, particularly in relation to Iran.
“We are convinced that this path – one of negotiations, unity and balancing interests – serves the interests of the entire region, one of the most important regions in the world, rather than attempts to force any country, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran, to follow dictates from abroad,”
The comments come amid ongoing regional instability that has intensified following coordinated military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran in late February. The resulting escalation has led to continued exchanges of strikes across the region, with Iran responding through drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as neighboring countries hosting US military assets.
