Tusk And Sikorski Criticize Polish President Karol Nawrocki Over His Support For Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán Ahead Of Elections
"President Nawrocki's participation in a Budapest meeting of pro-Russian and Eurosceptic politicians is a fatal mistake and confirms a dangerous strategy of weakening the European Union and strengthening Putin," Tusk wrote.
Sikorski, in turn, emphasized that Nawrocki will visit Budapest on Monday to support Viktor Orbán in his election campaign.
"Orbán is the one blocking the 20th sanctions package against Russia and the return of PLN 2 billion (about half a billion euros) for military equipment transferred to Ukraine by the Polish army. In his election campaign, Orbán threatens an alleged invasion of Ukraine, supported by a GRU special group," Sikorski noted.
He added that Nawrocki will visit Orbán in the company of Putin supporters such as Matteo Salvini and Marine Le Pen.
"Mr. President, ask yourself why Orbán's nationalism and corruption have made Hungary the poorest country in the European Union. Is this what you want for Poland?" Sikorski wrote.
In response to Tusk's comments, the head of the International Policy Bureau at the Polish presidency, Marcin Przydacz, wrote on X that the head of the Polish government is spreading falsehoods.
"President Nawrocki does not plan to participate in any such meeting. Monday will be a day of Polish-Hungarian friendship, so in Przemyśl there will be a meeting of the Presidents of Poland and Hungary. Afterwards, in the evening, negotiations between Presidents Nawrocki and Tamás Szűcs will continue in Budapest, followed by a meeting with the Hungarian Prime Minister,” Przydacz wrote, advising Tusk to“delete the tweet, or better yet, the account."
