Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said on Monday that while Iran had not started the current hostilities, it stands ready to endure a long-term confrontation.

“Iran, unlike the United States, has prepared itself for a long war,” Larijani wrote in a post on X.
Drawing on historical precedent, he added:“As in the past 300 years, Iran did not start this war, our brave armed forces have not engaged in a single offensive operation, acting solely in self-defense.”
Larijani further pledged that Iran would“fiercely defend itself and its six-thousand-year-old civilization regardless of the costs,” warning that its adversaries would“regret their miscalculation.”
His remarks come after a fresh wave of aerial strikes launched by the United States and Israel on Saturday, marking a significant escalation eight months after earlier hostilities between the sides.
