Rena Zito

Rena Zito is an associate professor of sociology at Elon University. Her research focuses on the social roots of rule-violating behavior, identity formation, and stigma processes. She is most interested in perceptions of stigmatized populations, and how stigmatized populations form identities, preserve dignity, and combat social exclusion. She has published over 20 journal articles and book chapters on these topics, with her most recent work focused on the social dimensions of Tourette Syndrome. She is also the author of the textbook Engaged Criminology: An Introduction.
