US Considers ‘Core 5’ Alliance with Russia, China, India, Japan

(MENAFN) The United States is reportedly planning to quietly establish a five-nation coalition including Russia, China, India, and Japan, aiming to challenge the influence of the Western-led G7, according to multiple media reports.

The concept, outlined in an extended unpublished draft of the US National Security Strategy, was circulated last week under President Donald Trump’s administration.

A news agency reported that this draft, which predated the release of the official unclassified document, suggested forming a new group called the “Core 5” to provide a platform for discussions among major global powers outside the G7 framework.

Under this proposed arrangement, the five-nation bloc would organize regular summits similar to those of the G7, each focusing on a particular topic. Initial discussions are said to center on Middle East security, including efforts to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

The unpublished draft also reportedly recommends reducing Washington’s role in European defense, urging NATO to adopt a stricter “burden-sharing” approach, while prioritizing direct bilateral relationships with EU countries perceived as aligned with US interests, such as Austria, Hungary, Italy, and Poland.

A media outlet reported that White House spokesperson Anna Kelly emphasized that “no alternative, private, or classified version exists” beyond the officially released 33-page strategy.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin stated that it has not received any formal information from Washington regarding the proposed plan and cautioned that such claims should be approached with skepticism.
