Türkiye Denounces Israeli Raid on UNRWA Facility

(MENAFN) Türkiye on Tuesday strongly rebuked Israel for its incursion into the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem and for taking control of the premises.

In an official declaration, the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated: “We condemn Israel’s raid on the UNRWA building located in occupied East Jerusalem and its seizure of the facility,” emphasizing deep concern over the incident.

The ministry underscored that Israel’s assault on a UN facility—one that possesses diplomatic immunity—represents a blatant breach of international law.

It further referenced the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion dated Oct. 22, 2025, which explicitly affirmed Israel’s responsibility as an occupying power to refrain from hindering the UNRWA’s work and, instead, to actively enable its operations.

Highlighting the agency’s essential role, the statement stressed that the UNRWA delivers crucial services to Palestinian refugees and serves as a key institution in safeguarding their right of return.

The continuation of its activities, it added, is fundamental to advancing long-term peace initiatives.

The ministry continued: “The international community must take deterrent measures against Israel’s unlawful practices and support UNRWA,” calling for a collective response to the situation.

The incident followed a Monday operation by Israeli forces, who stormed the agency’s headquarters in occupied East Jerusalem.
