DMT To Launch Mobile Service For Disaster-Damaged Vehicles
Commissioner General of the DMT, Kamal Amarasinghe, stated that the department is currently collecting information on disaster-impacted vehicles and related documents, which will guide further actions.“Some individuals have lost not only their vehicles but also crucial documents. Collecting accurate information from affected owners and local authorities is essential to manage the situation effectively,” he said.
Affected vehicle owners are advised to inform the Grama Niladhari of their division, who will notify the Officer-in-Charge of the local police station. A formal police complaint should then be filed to document the loss.
Given the high volume of inquiries received by DMT divisions, a dedicated unit has been established to handle calls and provide guidance to the public. Information can also be submitted via WhatsApp at 070 718 8866. Vehicle owners are encouraged to preserve any available evidence of their vehicles or documents, as it will assist in future proceedings.
This service is part of a broader effort by the DMT to ensure that disaster-affected individuals can quickly recover and resume normal vehicle use while maintaining proper legal documentation.
