UNFPA Appeals For USD 116 Mln For Sudanese Women's Health Services

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, Dec 9 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on Tuesday appealed for USD 116 million under the 2026 Humanitarian Response Plan, warning that life-saving reproductive maternal health and psychosocial support services for thousands of conflict-affected women and girls in Sudan are at risk of shutting down due to a critical funding gap.
Speaking online from (Port Sudan) to journalists in Geneva, UNFPA Country Representative in Sudan Fabrizia Falcione said the agency received only 42 percent of the required humanitarian funding in 2025.
She noted that this shortfall has already forced the closure of several Safe Spaces for Women and Girls, reduced essential supplies and disrupted key reproductive health services across the country.
She warned that the ongoing war is "an assault on the rights health and dignity of women and girls", with 12.1 million people at risk of gender-based violence, urging the international community to act swiftly to prevent further atrocities. (end)
