IDF carries out new wave of attacks in populated areas in Gaza

(MENAFN) The Israeli army launched a fresh round of airstrikes and artillery fire on army-controlled areas in both northern and southern Gaza, in a new violation of the already fragile ceasefire in the besieged enclave.

Witnesses told Anadolu that Israeli forces carried out heavy airstrikes on the western parts of Rafah in southern Gaza, while artillery units simultaneously targeted the city’s eastern districts.

Israeli naval forces also opened fire from the sea toward Khan Younis, sparking panic among displaced residents sheltering in the area.

In northern Gaza, Israeli forces continued demolition operations inside the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, amid intense drone activity overhead.

The latest attacks came despite a ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10 under US President Donald Trump’s plan, halting two years of Israeli onslaught that has killed more than 70,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured nearly 171,000 since October 2023.

The Gaza Government Media Office said Tuesday that the Israeli military committed 738 ceasefire violations within 60 days. These included direct gunfire and shelling targeting unarmed civilians and homes, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and raids on residential areas with military vehicles.

According to the statement, Israel’s “systematic violations” resulted in the death of 386 civilians and injuries to 980 others, along with 43 unlawful arrests.

Regarding humanitarian access, the media office reported that an average of 226 aid trucks entered Gaza each day—far below the minimum 600 Israel is required to allow under the agreement.

Only about five fuel trucks were permitted daily, instead of the 50 mandated, causing severe disruptions to hospitals, bakeries, water stations, and sewage facilities.
