President Orders Compensation For Farmers In Nuwara Eliya
District authorities reported that 1,421 hectares of vegetable cultivation had been damaged as a result of severe weather conditions. In response, President Dissanayake instructed officials to expedite compensation for all affected farmers and ensure that the support process begins without delay.
Despite the scale of the destruction, officials stated that the overall reduction in the district's vegetable harvest stands at approximately 25 percent. They confirmed that daily supply to markets can still be maintained, although a noticeable decrease in consumer demand has emerged in recent days.
Officials also briefed the President on misinformation circulating among the public, explaining that false claims of a vegetable shortage and soaring prices in the Nuwara Eliya District have discouraged consumers and contributed to the drop in demand.
