Türkiye, Hungary ink deal in aviation, security, technology, culture
(MENAFN) Türkiye and Hungary announced a wide range of new accords on Monday—covering areas such as aviation, security, technology, culture, and education—as both nations signaled their intention to further strengthen their partnership, according to reports.
During a joint press appearance in Istanbul following their meeting, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that the two governments are nearing their goal of achieving $6 billion in bilateral trade. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban was in Türkiye for the seventh session of the Türkiye-Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
According to statements made at the event, discussions included raising the trade target to $10 billion. Erdogan highlighted that "We implemented 28 joint actions, allocated resources to joint projects" in 2025, which has been designated as the Türkiye-Hungary Year of Science and Innovation.
Reports said the two sides also agreed to form a joint planning committee led by their foreign ministries to handle shared and international matters through a more structured framework.
Taking note of Europe’s shifting security landscape, Erdogan explained that "we are evaluating projects — including those that foresee joint production — which will further advance our defense industry cooperation."
The leaders also reviewed several global and regional developments, including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine. Erdogan expressed appreciation for Hungary’s engagement in the work of the Organization of Turkic States, where Budapest participates as an observer.
He emphasized confidence that Hungary will maintain its supportive role, stating "We are confident that Hungary will continue its constructive contributions and strong support in our strategic goal of full European Union membership."
