Shakeel Bakhshi Arrested In 29-Yr-Old Case

Srinagar- Police on Monday arrested Shakeel Bakhshi, former leader of the now-defunct Islamic Students League, in connection with a decades-old case registered in Srinagar, officials said.
Bakhshi, a resident of Ziyarat Batmaloo who currently lives in Gousia Colony, Bemina, was taken into custody from the Lower Court area in Bemina. The arrest pertains to FIR No. 192 of 1996, filed at Police Station Shergari on July 17 that year.
The case involves charges under Sections 307, 341, 148, 336 and 332 of the Ranbir Penal Code, along with Sections 7 and 25 of the Arms Act and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
ADVERTISEMENTPolice officials said the action forms part of a continuing effort to trace and apprehend individuals wanted in long-pending cases. They added that all legal formalities are being completed and the investigation is underway to determine Bakhshi's alleged role in the incident.
