US Coast Guard vessel intercepts thousands of cocaine on ship
(MENAFN) A US Coast Guard vessel has intercepted more than 20,000 pounds (approximately 9,070 kg) of cocaine from a single ship, marking the largest maritime drug seizure in nearly twenty years, according to reports.
The haul was made by the crew of the Munro, a Pacific-patrolling cutter based in Alameda, California, during counter-narcotics operations in the Eastern Pacific. The operation took place as part of Operation Pacific Viper, an initiative launched during the Trump administration to disrupt the flow of illegal drugs across the Pacific Ocean.
“Our maritime fighting force is leading America’s drug interdiction operations, protecting the Homeland, and keeping deadly drugs out of American communities. This is where defense of America begins,” the agency said in a post on social media.
