Kunshan Strives To Build A Child-Friendly City That Supports Children's Happy, Healthy Growth

(MENAFN- GetNews) The first Kunshan“Child Friendliness” Cultural Week, themed“Child-friendly Environment, Blooming Sunflowers,” was held recently in Kunshan, a county-level city under jurisdiction of Suzhou in East China's Jiangsu province, on World Children's Day. At the same time, the“Lu Meng (Adorable Deerlets)” child-friendly block opened, showcasing the city's commitment to putting child-friendly principles into practice and supporting minors' healthy, joyful development.

Friendliness to children reflects a city's warmth, and nurturing the next generation shapes its future. The cultural week featured a drone show titled“Light Up Childhood” and 20 themed activities across four categories-moral education, mental health education, aesthetic education, and physical education-aimed at fostering a social atmosphere of care and support for children's healthy development.

The opening ceremony began with a stirring performance by the“Little Plum Blossom” Kunqu Opera Troupe, nationally honored as“Good Youngsters in the New Era.” Their blend of traditional Kunqu and youthful vitality vividly showcased the talents of outstanding young performers and inspired the audience. That was followed by lively street dance, an endearing cheerleading routine, and a stand-up comedy piece sharing parenting wisdom-together painting a vivid portrait of growth in a child-friendly environment.

The opening of the“Lu Meng (Adorable Deerlets)” child-friendly block marked a milestone in Kunshan's development of child-friendly spaces. Kunshan will continue building the“Lu Meng” brand to expand and improve access to quality child-friendly spaces.

As one of the first county-level cities in China to pilot child-friendly city construction, Kunshan has crafted an ecosystem of policies, spaces, and services in recent years. During the event, the city unveiled new child-development spaces planned for 2025, with five major categories of child-friendly spaces continuously enhancing the environment for children's growth. The“Kunshan Child-Friendly City Construction Initiative” was read aloud on site, and certificates were presented to students whose outstanding works in the World Children's Day–themed creation activity earned them public exhibition opportunities.

The event also strengthened Kunshan's support system for minors. The Kunshan Parents School Headquarters, the Kunshan Family Education Counseling Center and the Suzhou Family Education Guidance Service Kunshan Sub-center officially moved into the Kunshan Guidance Center for Healthy Growth of Minors. By co-locating and integrating resources, they aim to accelerate collaborative parenting among families, schools, and the wider community.

A donation ceremony followed, with the Kunshan Huiju Charity Foundation and the Kunshan Charity Federation making generous contributions to the Kunshan Special Fund for Minors' Healthy Growth. A number of Kunshan enterprises responded positively and received donation certificates and trophies. Through government–enterprise collaboration, Kunshan has secured ongoing societal support for children's development.

Kunshan has long prioritized caring for minors, adhering to the principle of“viewing the world from a child's height” and grounding its work in children's needs. By strengthening resource coordination and interdepartmental collaboration, the city is committed to building the“Blooming Sunflowers” brand for minor-related work. In comprehensive cooperation with Nanjing Normal University, Kunshan continues to expand family education and mental health services, striving to create a safe, fun, equal, inclusive and innovative environment for children's growth.
