(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
NEW DELHI, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- Bangladesh authorities said on Sunday it has sent another official letter to India requesting the repatriation of Sheikh Hasina who has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity.
The leading Bangladeshi online news network BSS, said quoting Bangladesh Foreign Adviser Md Touhid while responding to media queries regarding sending repatriation request to India that a letter was sent on Friday.
The BSS said quoting an official source at the foreign ministry that the official diplomatic letter was sent through the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi.
The International Crimes Tribunal delivered death sentence on Hasina and her home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for committing crimes against humanity during the mass uprising in July that toppled Hasina's government and forced her to flee to India.
The Adviser stated that Bangladesh will place its request under the extradition treaty with India and added that India did not respond to earlier request from Dhaka seeking Hasina's return.
"Now the situation is different. The judicial process has been completed and they have been convicted," he added.
After International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death on November 17, India had said it is committed to the best interest of the people of Bangladesh.
"As a close neighbour, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in that country. We will always engage constructively with all stakeholders to that end," Indian External Affairs Ministry had said.
