Israel shells Quneitra in latest violation of Syrian sovereignty

(MENAFN) The Israeli army shelled the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria on Tuesday, marking a new violation of Syrian sovereignty.

According to a Syrian news agency, four artillery shells struck the eastern Tal Ahmar forest area.

No information was provided regarding casualties or damage.

The attack followed Israeli advances into rural areas of Quneitra and Daraa earlier in the day. There was no immediate response from Israeli or Syrian authorities.

Incursions by Israel in Quneitra have reportedly intensified, with locals citing farmland destruction, forest damage, arrests, and military checkpoints. Government data indicates the Israeli army has conducted over 1,000 airstrikes and more than 400 cross-border raids in southern Syria since December 2024.

Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, violating the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
