Emirates Unveils USD38B Boeing 777-9 Aircraft Order
(MENAFN) Emirates unveiled a massive $38 billion order for 65 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft Monday, marking the opening day of Dubai Airshow 2025 with one of the industry's largest-ever single commitments.
The Dubai-based carrier, already Boeing's biggest wide-body customer, has now expanded its total aircraft order book with the American manufacturer to 315 wide-body planes, Emirates confirmed in an official statement.
The deal represents a "massive" long-term commitment to US aerospace manufacturing, generating support for hundreds of thousands of high-value manufacturing jobs in the US over the life of the programs, the statement indicated.
Boeing 777-9 aircraft utilize GE 9X engines, pushing Emirates' engine order book with GE Aerospace to 540 units, the airline noted.
Emirates revealed the agreement also delivers substantial backing for Boeing's feasibility study targeting development of the 777-10, an enlarged version of its 777X lineup, with the carrier securing options to swap its existing 777-9 order for either the 777-10 or 777-8 variants.
"Emirates is already the world's largest Boeing 777 operator and we are expanding our commitment to the programme today with additional orders worth US $38 billion for 65 Boeing 777-9s, and 130 GE9X engines. This is a long-term commitment and testament to our partnership with Boeing and GE, and to US aerospace," Emirates' CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated.
Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, remarked: "Boeing has been a proud supporter of Emirates over the past 40 years as the airline has grown into one of the world's leading carriers and developed a reputation for excellence and innovation. We look forward to growing our partnership and for Emirates to fly Boeing airplanes for decades to come."
Following the announcement, Emirates anticipates receiving Boeing aircraft deliveries extending through 2038, the airline added.
Now in its 19th edition, Dubai Airshow 2025 launched Monday with more than 1,500 participants representing 115 nations in attendance.
The exposition, ranking among the world's premier aerospace industry gatherings, features over 1,500 participating organizations, including 440 first-time exhibitors this year. Furthermore, 490 military and civilian delegations from 115 countries are taking part.
