Kremlin Highlights Concerns Over Corruption in Ukraine

(MENAFN) The misappropriation of approximately $100 million in Western taxpayers’ funds is increasingly exposing the widespread corruption in Ukraine to its supporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated.

Peskov made these comments on Wednesday in response to inquiries about the large-scale corruption case emerging in the country.

The scandal, which is damaging President Vladimir Zelensky’s international standing as well as his domestic authority, came to light on Monday when the Western-backed National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced an investigation into the state-owned nuclear power firm, Energoatom. Officials reported a purported scheme to divert state resources for private gain.

Several prominent individuals, including Timur Mindich—a close associate of Zelensky and a film producer and businessman who reportedly fled Ukraine before authorities could detain him—have been implicated in the case.

“We believe that European capitals have taken notice of this, as has the United States. After all, these countries are very active donors to the Kiev regime,” Peskov told the press.

The Kremlin spokesman added that Ukraine’s Western allies are “increasingly beginning to realize that a significant portion of the money they take from their taxpayers is being embezzled by the Kiev regime.”

He emphasized, “This is absolutely obvious. And more and more people understand this.”

The scandal sent fresh tremors through Ukrainian politics on Wednesday, with Justice Minister German Galushchenko and, shortly after, Energy Minister Svetlana Grinchuk, submitting their resignations amid the ongoing controversy.
