China Blasts Netherlands for Disregarding Demands in Nexperia Dispute
(MENAFN) China on Thursday sharply criticized the Netherlands for disregarding its "reasonable demands" during talks over Dutch semiconductor company Nexperia, warning that the Dutch government bears responsibility for disruptions in the global supply chain.
Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong told reporters that the Netherlands has "failed to respond constructively" to China's reasonable demands during recent consultations, fueling instability in the worldwide supply of semiconductors.
He added that the Dutch government's "improper interference" in Nexperia's internal affairs has created "significant disruptions and chaos in the global semiconductor supply chain."
According to He, China has acted responsibly by "promptly" processing export license applications from Chinese exporters, granting exemptions for eligible cases, and helping Nexperia’s China operations resume supply, all to ensure the stability and security of the global semiconductor supply chain.
"China hopes the Netherlands, from the standpoint of safeguarding overall China-Netherlands and China-EU economic and trade relations as well as the stability and security of global supply chains, will act responsibly and meet China halfway," He said.
He further stressed: "The Dutch side should stop interfering in corporate internal affairs and find a constructive solution to the Nexperia issue."
The tensions follow Beijing’s recent decision to impose an export ban on chips manufactured at Nexperia’s Chinese facilities. The move came after the Netherlands, on Sept. 30, temporarily seized control of Nexperia under a 1952 law that allows the Dutch government to block or reverse corporate actions deemed risky to national or European production.
Dutch Economy Minister Vincent Karremans defended his country’s intervention, citing worries that “crucial technological knowledge and capabilities” could leave Europe.
Nexperia, based in Nijmegen, produces basic but essential semiconductors used in vehicles and household electronics. The company was acquired in 2019 by China’s Wingtech Technology.
