US won’t allow Nvidia to sell chip to China— White House spokesperson

(MENAFN) The White House said Tuesday that Nvidia will not be permitted to sell its most advanced artificial intelligence (AI) chip, the Blackwell model, to China “at this time.”

“As for the most advanced chips, the ‘Blackwell’ chip — that’s not something we’re interested in selling to China at this time,” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

Leavitt added that President Donald Trump’s position on the matter is “very clear,” emphasizing that the administration aims to protect US technological leadership in AI.

Her comments followed Trump’s remarks on Sunday, when he said the most advanced chips from America’s leading tech companies would be reserved for US businesses and barred from sale to China and other nations.

Questions had surfaced since August, when Trump indicated he might allow the export of a scaled-down version of Nvidia’s Blackwell chip to China. During last week’s Trump–Xi summit in South Korea, the president suggested he could raise the issue but later confirmed that it was not discussed.
