Germany Plans Boost in Aid to Ukraine for 2026
(MENAFN) Germany is preparing to substantially raise its financial support for Ukraine in 2026, a news agency reported, citing government insiders.
As Kiev’s most significant EU supporter, Berlin has already contributed approximately €40 billion ($46 billion) since the conflict between Ukraine and Russia intensified in February 2022.
According to the news agency, German authorities are evaluating an extra €3 billion ($3.5 billion) increase for next year, which could bring the total German assistance to €11.5 billion ($13.2 billion) in 2026.
Germany had initially allocated €8.5 billion ($9.8 billion) for Ukraine in the upcoming budget.
However, sources told the news agency on Tuesday that the sum is expected to grow by over a third due to additional funding from the finance and defense ministries. Comparable figures were reported by a newspaper.
The additional resources are planned to cover artillery, drones, armored vehicles, and the replacement of two US-made Patriot air-defense systems, according to the agency’s sources.
“We will continue our support for as long as necessary,” a source told the news agency.
The Ukrainian funding has been approved despite German Chancellor Frederich Merz acknowledging in August that the national economy faces a “structural crisis,” with many sectors “no longer truly competitive.”
