Zelensky Awards Two Soldiers Remaining At Combat Position For 165 Days

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the Office of the President reported this.

Platoon commander Oleksandr Tishaiev has been deployed in the Zaporizhzhia sector since the summer of last year. Since then, he has directed the destruction of Russian invaders and held positions, engaging in battles against enemy forces that greatly outnumbered his unit.

Tishaiev destroyed enemy drones and saved the lives of his fellow soldiers.

Grenadier Oleksandr Aliksiienko has also been deployed in the Zaporizhzhia sector since September of last year. He repeatedly repelled attacks by Russian drones using electronic warfare systems and small arms. He evacuated comrades from a dugout that the invaders targeted with gas munitions delivered by FPV drones. Despite intense artillery fire and drone attacks, Aliksiienko took and held key positions.

From May to October of this year, on the outskirts of Verbove, Mala Tokmachka, and Orikhiv in the Zaporizhzhia region, Tishaiev, as the senior of the position, together with Aliksiienko, remained at one of the observation posts for 165 consecutive days. They reported on enemy reconnaissance along the front line and drone flights, monitored the movement of enemy assault groups, conducted preemptive fire, and provided updates on the positions and locations of Russian occupation forces.

Under constant enemy mortar fire and drone attacks, Oleksandr Tishaiev ensured the uninterrupted operation of their position and maintained the morale of Oleksandr Aliksiienko, who had been wounded in one of the combat engagements. More than 30 attempts were made to rotate or evacuate them from the position, but doing so safely proved impossible.

The last combat engagement with Russian occupiers took place on October 20, when the enemy assaulted the defensive line using 22 armored vehicles and infantry units. After destroying a Russian MT-LB amphibious, tracked armored fighting vehicle, Ukrainian defenders eliminated three invaders who tried to storm their position.

On October 28, thanks to favorable weather conditions, Tishaiev and Aliksiienko were successfully evacuated from their position.

Despite his injury, Oleksandr Aliksiienko, with the assistance of his comrade, managed to walk approximately 12 kilometers to the evacuation point.

As of now, both soldiers are undergoing treatment in a military hospital.

As reported by Ukrinform, President Zelensky has awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Major Artem Piven.
