UN Chief Urges End To 'Unimaginable Violence' In Sudan, Calls For Two-State Solution In Palestine
Doha, Qatar: The United Nation has called for a safe delivery of UN Humanitarian Aid to all civilians in need and an end to the flow of weapons and fighters into Sudan.
In his address at the Second World Summit for Social Development 2025 held in Doha, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres said the violence in Sudan is spiraling out of control as people are suffering and dying.
“For over 18 months, Elfasher and its surrounding areas in North Darfur have been an epicenter of suffering, hunger, violence and displacement. And since the Rapid Support Forces entered El-Fasher last weekend, the situation is growing worse by the day.”
“Hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped by the siege, people are dying of malnutrition, disease and violence and we are hearing continued reports of violation of international humanitarian law and human rights. Targeting of civilians and civilians' infrastructure including hospitals, oil refineries... ethnic violence and now credible report of widespread execution since RSF entered the city.”
Guterres further expressed concern on the continuous violation of ceasefire in Gaza.
He said,“They must stop and all parties must abide by the decisions of the first phase of the peace agreement and let's not forget the need to establish a credible political path, towards exempting the occupation... leading to a two-state solution that enables Israel and Palestinians to live in peace and security.”
While acknowledging the role of Qatar in being an advocate for education and a peacemaker in the DRC, Afghanistan, Middle East and the world, the UN chief urged for renewed commitment to social development.
He further called on leaders to continue delivering on their promises towards the Doha Declaration and thanked Qatar for bringing participants together.
