Türkiye, Jordan Forge Stronger Economic Ties
(MENAFN) Türkiye and Jordan formalized a memorandum of understanding during the Türkiye–Jordan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting in Amman, attended by trade ministers from both nations.
At the event, Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat described the JEC gathering as “a watershed moment in the two countries' bilateral relations in trade, investments, infrastructure, contracting, agriculture, health, culture, tourism, and other fields, with the signing of the first joint economic commission.”
Bolat emphasized that bilateral discussions resulted in mutual agreements to launch new projects and cooperation programs across key sectors.
As part of his visit, Bolat joined Turkish and Jordanian businesspeople, along with the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), for a roundtable meeting. A broader business forum bringing together private sectors from both nations is planned for the future.
“We will sign many agreements on cooperation in free zones, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), organized industrial zones, standardization, education, health and scientific research, and agriculture,” he said.
Bolat highlighted the accelerating trade relationship, noting that the Turkish-Jordan trade volume reached nearly $1.5 billion between January and September, reflecting a rapidly expanding partnership based on a win-win approach.
He further pointed out that Türkiye and Jordan, as well as their respective private sectors, support cooperating on the reconstruction of Syria, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank.
The minister also underscored the strategic value of regional connectivity: “The historic transportation corridor between Syria and Jordan would boost transport and trade from Europe to the Gulf via Türkiye, Syria, and Jordan, and then back to Europe.”
