Arab League: Occupation Forces' Practices Threaten Sustainable Development In Arab Region

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- The Arab League affirmed on Tuesday that global visions and gains related to sustainable development in the Arab region are now threatened by the brutal practices of the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied Arab territories.
This came in a statement on on the occasion of (Arab Population and Development Day), which coincides with October 28, saying that the world is only five years away from 2030, the deadline set for achieving the sustainable development goals, stressing that efforts to ensure that "no one is left behind" face significant challenges due to escalating conflicts and geopolitical tensions.
It pointed out that the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development and the program of action of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development, which affirm that "the human person is the essence and purpose of development," represent a political and economic commitment to achieving peace and shared prosperity. However, the escalation of conflicts and occupation practices hinders the achievement of these goals.
It noted that the continuation of these practices leads to the diversion of development resources to security and military expenditures, which weakens political commitment to development efforts and threatens regional stability.
It called for gathering international efforts to protect development gains, invest in peace, and preserve lives, stressing that development, security, and stability can only be achieved by investing in people through education, health, culture, and awareness. (end)
