Czech ANO Party Reveals Sealing Coalition with Eurosceptic Allies
(MENAFN) The leader of the Czech Republic's ANO party announced that a coalition agreement with two Eurosceptic groups, the Motorists and the SPD party, will be signed on Nov. 3, according to local reports on Wednesday.
Andrej Babis, head of the right-wing populist ANO party, stated that an accord has been reached with the Motorists party and the Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) party to establish a coalition government, with the formal signing scheduled for next week, a media outlet reported.
The leaders of the three parties are planned to convene later on Wednesday to deliberate on the distribution of prominent parliamentary positions and the policy priorities for the forthcoming government, the report indicated.
This development follows President Petr Pavel officially assigning Babis on Monday the task of negotiating a new government formation.
Babis is anticipated to present the coalition agreement and outline the administration’s key objectives to President Pavel later this week.
In the parliamentary elections held on Oct. 3-4, populist billionaire Babis' ANO emerged as the frontrunner with approximately 34.7% of votes, significantly surpassing the incumbent center-right Spolu coalition, which garnered about 23.2%.
