Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed noisy scenes as issues related to the reservation policy, cross-voting in the recent Rajya Sabha polls, and the detention of an AAP MLA under the Public Safety Act (PSA) dominated the proceedings.
Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone sought to move an adjournment motion to discuss the government's“failure” to rationalize the reservation policy.
Calling it a“post-dated cheque for disaster,” Lone pressed for a discussion, but Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather rejected the motion, citing procedural rules and the matter's sub-judice status.
ADVERTISEMENTThe Speaker explained that an adjournment motion can only be brought on matters of recent occurrence.“This is not a matter of recent occurrence. The issue has already been discussed in the House. The government has formed a committee to address it, and you have previously raised it,” the Speaker said.
Tensions escalated when cross-voting during the Rajya Sabha elections was raised during the question hour. Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary accused the BJP of“stealing four votes,” prompting sharp reactions from BJP members.
